Strange and Beautiful

You’re trucking along on your merry way and suddenly a hurricane of doubt hits you and next thing you know you’re standing in the middle of a desolate expanse left with nothing. At least you can still hear the waves crashing, at least you can still hold onto the fact that despite the chaos that surrounds you, you haven’t lost your life.

The human mind is a powerful thing. It can drag you so far down, sometimes so quickly it seems impossible to dig yourself back out.

Things aren’t always going to go as planned no matter how much we prepare ourselves for the worst, the ‘actual’ worst might end up being completely different than the ‘imagined’ worst that we felt ready to endure. That is simply another defensive reflex that the mind takes to protect itself in the long run. We forget to leave room for the possibility of REAL failure. Or we consider failure but our tenacity is often blinding when we have our gameface on and then we find ourselves shattered when we really do lose.

On the other side of the coin, there are times when we fear failure so we lash out with irrational behavior to avoid the time involved in making an effort to actually find the answer, or better yet, MAKE an answer. We expect that history will repeat itself when we are faced with a situation that triggers negative emotions.

Wherever you are in your life, whatever challenges you are facing, just know that there will be an outcome, there will be an end. It will rarely be the end that you envision and that is only a positive thing in my mind. We can almost always look back at an “ending” and realize how it was actually a new beginning. We sometimes interfere with the true progression of a situation by not allowing time to reveal the answer. Sometimes a forced ending is a quick solution for moving forward and later we realize we were only being impatient.

I find all of this strange and beautiful. I find that circumstance changes when things should and shouldn’t end. I find that when we are seeking beginnings instead of dreading endings…. that is the kind of optimism that will literally propel us forward into new and wonderful situations. Cheers to thinking forward, to embracing life as it comes.
